ABOUT
Dr. Mark Naas
My treatment approach incorporates elements of Depth Psychotherapy and CBT to support clients in finding alternative ways of thinking, recognizing their strengths, and developing resilience. I also explore the significance of life events, experiences, and relationships in shaping clients' beliefs about themselves and their perception of the world. Additionally, I delve into the possible meaning of dreams. By doing so, I aim to help clients identify the root causes of their distress and offer tailored and comprehensive treatment strategies. During sessions, I actively listen to clients, ask pertinent questions, and provide my input. Through the combination of my training and experience in depth psychology and CBT, I strive to uncover the underlying issues that contribute to symptoms and distress, and provide individualized and holistic approaches to treatment.
I graduated from the California School of Professional Psychology in Fresno, CA in Sept. 2001 where I focused in depth psychology after completing my pre doctoral internship at the C.G. Jung Institute in San Francisco, CA. Since then, I have gained valuable experience working in community outpatient settings. My education and professional background have equipped me with a deep understanding of the human mind and behavior, allowing me to provide comprehensive and effective mental health services to individuals in need.
My methods
Depth Psychotherapy
Depth psychotherapy refers to a therapeutic approach that delves into the underlying roots of emotional and psychological challenges. It focuses on exploring unconscious aspects of the mind to bring about personal growth, insight, and healing. Rooted in psychodynamic theories, depth psychotherapy emphasizes understanding how past experiences, especially those from childhood, influence present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
The therapy involves a deep exploration of unconscious processes, unresolved conflicts, and patterns of behavior that may contribute to distress or dissatisfaction in a person's life.
The goal of depth psychotherapy is not merely symptom relief but aims for self-awareness, understanding, and integration of unconscious material to foster lasting emotional and psychological well-being. It encourages individuals to explore their inner worlds, gain insight into their motivations, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. This therapeutic approach often occurs over an extended period, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the complexities within an individual's psyche.
CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy that focuses on the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It operates on the premise that our thoughts influence our emotions and actions, and by changing negative thought patterns, we can alter feelings and behaviors for the better.
CBT involves identifying and challenging unhelpful or distorted thoughts (cognitive restructuring) that contribute to emotional distress or problematic behaviors. It teaches individuals to recognize these negative thought patterns, examine their validity, and replace them with more realistic, adaptive thoughts.
The collaborative nature of CBT allows individuals to actively participate in setting and achieving specific, achievable goals within a structured framework. CBT focuses on present concerns while also considering how past experiences might influence current thinking patterns.
