Dr. Janice Yu
Dr. Janice Yu is a highly experienced psychological evaluator, having served as a clinical director, expert witness, manager, supervisor, and senior psychological evaluator in psychological assessment and evaluation. Over the past decade, she has performed clinical, legal and judicially-mandated, and private pay psychological assessment for neurodiversity, medical necessity, forensic commitments, diagnostic clarification, trauma, immigration statuses, 5150 evaluations, and crisis intervention. Her private practice specializes in clinical, forensic and immigration-status psychological assessment and testing. She has provided court testimony as a qualified expert witness in psychological assessment and evaluation in several California Superior Courts in Bay Area counties, including San Mateo, San Francisco, and Sacramento.
Currently, at Kaiser Permanente Psychiatry in San Francisco, Dr. Yu is clinical director, manager, supervisor, and senior psychological evaluator for the child and adult neurodiversity assessment programs. Prior to this managerial role, she was the Senior Psychologist Specialist Evaluator at Napa State Hospital, where she provided assessment for diagnostically complex cases pertaining to the legal system, performed as community program director and clinical supervisor of the Conditional Outpatient Release program, and served on the panel for mental disorder evaluators for the State of California. At the California Department of State Hospitals and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation facility in Stockton (acute and intermediate, medical, and mental health care), Dr. Yu was a staff psychologist specializing in assessment, and developed the training onboarding program for newly hired psychologists.
During her training, Dr. Yu completed residency and practicum trainings at the California Department of State Hospitals in Stockton, San Francisco Forensic Institute, San Francisco Department of Public Health (youth and juvenile assessment and treatment), Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (substance abuse and trauma), Federal Bureau of Prisons (San Francisco), and Belmont-Redwood Shores School District (therapy for learning disabled and special education needs). While she was unlicensed and in training, she was also employed at Maguire Correctional Facility (San Mateo County). Dr. Yu was awarded [her combined] Master’s and Doctorate Degree from Alliant International University in Clinical Forensic Psychology in 2015. She received a Bachelor's Degree from Santa Clara University in Communication in 2009.
Dr. Yu has been licensed as a psychologist with the California Board of Psychology since 2016 and is a member of both the American Psychological Association and the California Psychological Association.
